Student Recreation and Convocation Center

The new Coastal Carolina Student Recreation and Convocation Center is a 130,000-square-foot facility that has become the home of the Chanticleer basketball and volleyball programs. The $35 million project has been open since 2012. When configured for a sporting event, the Convocation Center is able to seat more than 3,600 people, more than quadrupling the capacity of Kimbel Arena. This new facility allows Coastal Carolina programs to be more competitive at the highest level, recruit the highest caliber student athletes and allow the Chanticleers to showcase their beautiful University and surrounding region.

The facility houses offices, locker rooms, and team meeting rooms for the men's and women's basketball and volleyball programs.

In addition, the facility includes a dual use space that will be suitable for expanded intramural sports and fitness/recreation activities for the University's more than 8,700 students. The University Bookstore and a juice bar/concession area are also housed in the new building.

The Student Recreation Center section of the facility includes an indoor running track, climbing wall, multipurpose rooms, weight area, cardiovascular areas and locker rooms.

"The happiness that is genuinely satisfying is accompanied by the fullest exercise of our faculties and the fullest realization of the world in which we live."
-Bertrand Russell
